2.5 Million People Pretend to own a Dog To Protect Home

New research has found that Brits are employing innovative strategies to protect their home as 2.5 million people pretend to own a dog.

Homeowners have gone as far as to leave bowls out on display to ward off potential burglars .

The research, by insurance company Esure, found that one in ten Brits ask neighbours and friends to move their car into different parking spots while they are away.

The news comes as burglaries in the UK are confirmed as being on the rise. People are not just relying on home security to protect their property but the concept of barking animals as well.

One in eight people under the age of 25 now use Facebook and other social networking websites to advertise their whereabouts.

By broadcasting the message, this leaves an open invitation for thieves to target empty properties.

The average person spends £40 a year on home security devices and securing their property. The most popular security items that Brits use to protect their homes are window locks (73%), closely followed by upgraded door locks (46%) and alarms (36%) – spending £225 on security alarms every year.

“As a nation, we are well known for regarding our homes as castles and it appears that burglars are starting to get the message, “comments Nikki Sellers, Head of home insurance at Esure.

“Many hard working Brits will be embarking on well deserved holidays at this time of year so the last thing they should have to deal with is an intruder in their home.

“By taking a few precautions, such as investing in a timer for lights and cancelling deliveries, householders can avoid a potentially distressing experience and focus instead on enjoying their summer holiday.”

If you’re going away this summer and can’t afford to get up to scratch with the latest home security, a quick and fast payday loan could help put money towards a high tech device or dog bowl.
